Bursaries

*Please note that 25th May is the final day for bursary applications to be submitted*

The conference planning group have been successful in gaining funding to support bursaries and are very grateful to the following:

We are still hoping to receive support from others we have approached.

This guidance is for people who wish to apply for a conference bursary and who are either:

Service user and carer educators/researchers

In recognition of the central role that service users and carers play in social work education and social work research, funding is being sought by the conference planning group to meet some of the conference fees and travel expenses for your participation.

However it should be noted that we may have a shortfall this year. As a result there are likely to be a limited number of funded places.

It is likely that not everyone that applies will receive a bursary and we will be seeking to ensure all four countries of the UK are represented. You are strongly advised to seek funding from your own organisation, if appropriate, or the HEI social work course you work with.

Priority will be given to people who:

  1. Have managed to secure some matched funding
  2. Are involved with presenting or co-presenting a paper, workshop or symposium at the conference.

If courses are able to pay or contribute to the conference fee it will enable the sponsorship monies to support more service user/carer educator/researcher participation. Decisions on who gets supported will be made by a panel drawn from the conference planning group.

Please note that JSWEC is unable to make any financial payment to contributors beyond the bursaries outlined below.

Bursary places will be limited to two from any one organisation or higher education institute.

There are different arrangements for England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, as detailed below.

England

We anticipate there being up to 10 bursaries available to support participation by service user and carer educators from England. Please complete the application form which needs to be signed by yourself and the head of your course and either send it by post to John Williams at the address below, or

If you would rather email the application form please send it to the head of your course and ask them to endorse it, state the HEI contribution and forward it to John at his email address below.
